What this means in a Picture Exif data?
History Parameters: converted from image/x-nikon-nef to image/tiff
Added (1). Please tell me what history happened on this file step by step.
It means the image was originally taken in raw mode (.nef is the nikon file extension for their raw files).
It means it was originally taken as a raw file (.nef is Nikon's raw file format) and converted to a TIFF file.
I guess it means.this
"Many raw file formats, including 3FR (Hasselblad), DCR, K25, KDC (Kodak), IIQ (Phase One), CR2 (Canon), ERF (Epson), MEF (Mamiya), MOS (Leaf), NEF (Nikon), ORF (Olympus), PEF (Pentax), RW2 (Panasonic) and ARW, SRF, SR2 (Sony), are based on the TIFF file format.[2] These files may deviate from the TIFF standard in a number of ways, including the use of a non-standard file header, the inclusion of additional image tags and the encryption of some of the tagged data."
What the others said.
NEF means Nikon Electronic Format. TIFF means Tagged Image File Format.
Every major Camera maker has a Raw file format, and they have their own names. Nikon is called NEF. Canon is called CR2.etc…
Tiff is a format that is not Raw, but it is a lossless format that is excellent. Computers can't understand what a Raw file is, as it's just sensor information that the camera created. You need a special program that comes with cameras that converts the Raw information into something the computer can understand, and one of those things is called a TIFF. Any computer can understand what a TIFF is.
Raw files can be converted to JPEG's too, JPEG stands for Joint Picture Experts Group. What that means is that the Raw file made into a JPEG is in a format that once again any computer can read, but it is different than a TIFF in that it is lossy format. Lossy means that the picture file has been made smaller through mathematical method that takes out information that it figures will never be missed. A smaller file means that it takes up less room on your computer and is easier to send on the internet. Virtually all pictures on the internet are JPEG's.
There are other formats too, but I would be typing all night. So NEF is a name brand of a Raw file, TIFF is a lossless format, and JPEG is lossy, but it has a small file size.
In the history of the Photo, it was converted from a NEF file to a TIFF, this is done with some software that you have not mentioned.
It was converted from RAW (Nikon.nef) to a tiff file.
That's all this tells us.
