Camera for Product photography?

I'm in the market to buy a new camera. I'm really clueless about cameras and photography. But I run a small online store and I want to improve on my product photography. I've been using my old Canon 450D and would like to upgrade into a mirror-less camera such as Olympus.

I'm interested in cameras like Olympus because it's compact and lighter than heavy duty DSLR camera such as nikon or cannon. Do you reckon Olympus will be good for product photography? Because I'm only taking photos of 40-60cm objects. Seems like Olympus is really good at landscape photography because of the art filters but I don't know if it's something commonly used for product. Would it be the same as other cameras because it is only a matter of lenses?

Any input or suggestions?

The Olympus is OK, but it won't perform any better than your existing camera - if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

Olympus is compact and OK, but it will take you back down to a much smaller sensor. You ought to look at a Sony Alpha 6000 which, unfortunately is quite plasticky and not designed for heavy commercial use. You'd need the premium Olympus OM-D EM5 or the new EM-1 or something like a Canon 70D for robustness Product photography benefits most from good lighting and uncluttered backgrounds, so these are where any money should be spent.

Art filters? Unecessary gimmick. If you must use such things, they can be found in post processing programs.

If you want to grow your online store, engage a professional photographer. You have just the one shot at making a good first impression. They'll click away from your site if it doesn't look excellent.

You're joking? A mirrorless camera is NOT an upgrade! I can do what you want with my Nikon D5000 and the 18-55mm VR lens! Learn how to use what you have!
