Best target scope for under $300?
I'm looking for a scope to put on my 22-250 and my 30-06 (250 is a savage axis, 06 is a savage 111). I want a scope that i can use for shooting up to 1000 yards. Right now i have the cheap bushnell 3-9x40 scope the guns came with on them and even with those scopes i'm making proper adjustments and hitting things up to 700 yards with both guns (mainly 2 liters). Both guns will be strictly target shooting guns, the only hunting will be maybe some varmint hunting with the 22-250 but my main interest is putting bullets on steel at long ranges. I'm looking for a scope that has more magnification than my 3-9 bushnells but i don't want anything that is more than 18x magnification cause i don't feel that i will need any more than that. 3 scopes i was looking at were a nikon prostaff 4-12x40 mil dot, a vortex diamondback 4-12x40 bdc, and a nikon buckmasters 6-18x40 mil dot. What scopes including those 3 and any others would suit my needs the best for under $300-$350? Also if buying a new scope wouldn't really be much of an improvement from what i have now let me know that too so i don't waist money on buying something that doesn't make that big of a difference.
Your a hell of a shot making 700 yards with a 22-250 axis with THAT scope. I would get one of the Nikons. That's what I was suggested to get for my savage axis 06.
Hawke and Weaver company scopes are usually less than 300 and have nice clarity in low light.
Nikon are good scopes, BUT IMHO vortex's scopes are better and they are about on par with leupold. They are new so they don't have as much history as leupold but they are great and have a great waranty.
I bought a Nikon Monarch because I didn't want to try Vortex. After getting my Nikon I got to shoot with a Vortex. I'm in love. My next scope will be a Vortex.
If I were you I would get the Vortex. If not the Vortex get the Nikon Buckmaster. Don't skimp on optics, optics make or break your rifles accuracy.
I have never heard anything but good things about Nikon scopes. If I were to go new, that's what I would be looking for.
I got a used Leupold 10X fixed power scope used for what you're looking to spend. From what I can gather, it was made at some point in the '80s. It's absolutely flawlessly clear and dirt simple.
On the other side of it, my shooting friend stuck a $35 used ebay Tasco on his AR varmint rifle with the thought that as soon as he could, he would replace it. Up to about 12X it pretty much matches my Leopold (At its higher maginifications it straight up sucks!).It has now been on the rifle for two seasons and it shows no signs of being anything but a great scope.
If you are getting a clear picture, and your adjustments are reliable and repeatable, I wouldn't mess with it. Reliably hitting a soda bottle at 700 yards is no small accomplishment. Many people with very expensive rigs couldn't replicate it.
Honestly, I wouldn't mess with success.
If you're already making shots at 700 yards with a rifle that shouldn't be able to reach out that far very well, it seems to me that we should be asking you for advice.
Yes, that's my way of saying that I don't believe you.
