I'm looking for a good dsl camera. I want one for christmas, so my mom told me to do my research. Its going to be my first one, but i've used them before.Id be making alot of videos, and taking pictures also. And needs to be affortable. Which i know most Dsl cameras are not! And when I say affortable i'm talking about like $500 or cheaper. If you could find one that has a whole package. You know like with sd card, cord, bag, stand, stuff like that, that would be great! I really don't care what brand, as long as its a good one. I know with the price range I have I probabley wouldnt be able to get a nikon or canon. And I don't know if most cameras have his but I would love for it to have the option of auto focus and manual focus.

I've never heard of a "dsl" camera - you mean dslr I take it.

$500… Not enough with video. You're going to need at the very least $600. For full 1080 HD video
you'll need at least $700.

I use and always recommend Canon. One of mine is the Canon t1i - full 1080 video… $650 to $700.

They are all good. With your budget, you will be limited to entry-level models. If you just want to try out photography not being sure you'll stick to it, get the cheapest Nikon. Later when you feel like moving up, you sell the camera and buy a better one. If you have lots of cash and you want to have lots of lens choices later, get a Canon. If you want a really good camera now and stick to it 'til kingdom come, get a Pentax. If you value looks and ergonomics, get a Sony.

Canon EOS XS, T3, Nikon D3000 and D3100 are all around $500.

All DSLRs come with a box, cables, batteries etc. You only need to buy an SD card, and the kit lens is also included.

Thank you, finally someone who doesn't expect that one brand is much more different than the other one! You will do good with the camera. And your price range is exactly for the Canon and Nikon cheap models (all dSLRs are great).

Auto focus = on all cameras as well, and manual focus is on all lenses too. So nothing to worry about.
