I'm looking for a decent DSLR camera that's fairly cheap (Nikon or Canon preferably). Any suggestions?

Something in canon rebel series. I don't use nikon. 600d for starters but if youve got more money to burn go 60d

"Cheap?" What does that mean? If cheap to you is $600 or so there's lots of cameras in the Canon Rebel line that are all excellent. However if "cheap" means to you what it seems to mean to so many who write here, around $200 or so, forget it. You won't find any dslr that's worth having under about
$600.

Look at the Nikon D3100 or Canon T3/1100D

Both cost under $700 with a lens.

$700 is very inexpensive. My first dSLR cost $2, 000 and was with no lens and the least expensive dSLR at the time (2002)

Personally i prefer Nikon over Cannon… The pictures tend to have a better quality of tone. I'm looking to get the nikon D90 which is in the range of 500-700, http://www.europe-nikon.com/...nsumer/d90 for the serious amateur… However you can get decent SLR for around 100 - 300. Some of the expense may depend on the type you want.look up on nikon website… Search nikon… Then check prices via amazon. Hope that helped!

What's fairly cheap? Any numbers?

Canon EOS XS, T3, Nikon D3100 and Pentax K-r would be the best.
