Would a SLR cameras be good for stopmotion (Nikon D3100)?
I used to make stopmotion (clay) videos with a low quality camera and i would like to start doing it again. Would a slr camera be a good option. I'm thinking about getting a nikon-d3100
ANY camera can shoot individual shots for shooting animation (I do not know how animation became known as stop motion. Stopping the motion of sports or action is a totally different thing)
You will need a tripod, remote shutter release and good lighting.
As you probably know, you need to shoot 1440 shots to make a one minute video at 24 fps.
David is correct, if you know anything at all about what you're doing, and it sounds like you do, any camera that you can control, like this Nikon will work.
And he's right again, "stop motion" isn't single frame animation. Stop motion is using your camera at a high shutter speed to literally stop the motion of say sports for example.
For stop motion animation you do need to be able to manuall control exposure and focus, so it doesn't change between frames. A system camera such as the D3100 would be suitable.
No.
Why? Because the D3100 is not a low quality camera. It's a dSLR for crying out loud! If you know what you're doing, you can get some of the best stop motion frames ever possible.
