Neither. It's all about preference. Each camera has its own qualities. I personally prefer canon. There a bit more user friendly

I prefer canon. I like the way my T3i fits in my hand. It feels solid but not too heavy. I also have a canon G10 bridge camera. I like it as well.

I have never used a Nikon DSLR.

I prefer Nikon personally. But you've asked a question that is so controversial and is so "overasked," there really isn't an answer until you have a camera from each company in your hands.

Neither is better, but I prefer Canon.

Its like asking which car is better: Mercedes or BMW, everybody has his own preferences both are good. For myself I use Canon

If you're asking the question, you shouldn't be allowed within 50 feet of a camera.

I prefer Pentax, but only intelligent people have heard of the company that was making SLRs while the Idiots' Two were knocking off German rangefinders.

Ah that age old question, wish I could give you a short answer. Basically you will have to look at it segment by segment. Which one has a better camera in beginner segment, intermediate segment and so on. Basically, I belong to Canon camp and the choice was easy for me. I'm more of an outdoor/nature amateur photographer and Canon always felt right. Nikon is better when you have people as subjects in indoor situations. That is just my observation. This website compares the best cameras in each segment and I like their choice and justifications:
