I was thinking of buying 35mm prime for indoor photography, buy i'm not sure which zoom lens to buy.
i'm interested in both wildlife and portraiture. My budget is around 25,000 INR or roughly 500$.
i'm also open to suggestions if you have any with respect to both lenses

Shooting portraits will require at least two lamps (key and fill) and the AF-S Nikkor 50 mm f/1.8 ($220) will be fine for this

The 35 mm will not be a good portrait lens and is certainly too short for shooting wildlife

Wildlife requires some kind of telephoto zoom and with your budget, the Nikkor AF-S 55-200 mm ($250) or Nikkor AF-S 55-300 mm ($400). These lenses are fine when shooting in full sun or deep shade, but at dawn and dusk you really need a faster lens, like the Nikkor AF-S 300 mm f/2.8 ($9,600 way past your budget)

The fine AF-S 70-300 mm VR would be fine, but it is over your budget ($590)

Spend some time on the Nikon website and see what other lenses catch your fancy

I own the d5200. I have the 18-55mm kit lens along with a 70-200mm lens and a 35-80mm. Those cover most anything I would want to take a picture of but I shoot outdoors more than portraits. For wildlife I've heard a lot of good about the Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6 G AF and you can find them on eBay anywhere from $130-$400. If you want to go any bigger on focal length your looking at a higher price. As for portraiture most people's favorite is the 50mm f/1.4G Prime but comparing it to the 35mm I would say the 35mm is the better and cheaper option. Here is a link that compares the two lenses if you're interested: https://photographylife.com/nikon-35mm-f1-8g-vs-50mm-f1-4g

If you wanted to go with a 50mm prime you can get the f/1.4 or for a little cheaper go with the f/1.8.
