If you can't answer for yourself, you have no business owning a D810.

The best camera in the world (or even a good one like the D810) is a paperweight in the hands of someone who doesn't know how to use it.

You can see exactly how sharp lenses are by going to photozone.de.
No one brand makes the sharpest lenses of every type. For example, the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 even at more than $2,000 isn't as good as the Canon version. The same goes for the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 which suffers a great deal from focus breathing.

As flawed as these two lenses are, they are probably the best choices you've got for your new D810. If you're looking for primes, the Zeiss Otus should be on the top of your list. However, while the Otus series is getting rave reviews as being the sharpest lenses in their respective focal lengths, some criticize them for the clinical rendering.

Go to http://www.photozone.de/...e/nikon_ff They have sharpness charts that use numerical values making it extremely easy to not only figure out which lens is sharpest, but by how much. For example, the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 is about 5-10% less sharp than the new Nikon 24-75 f/2.8. But when you consider that the Tamron is only $500 compared to the $2,400 Nikon version, you'll have to decide if that undetectable amount is worth spending 5x more for a 5-10% increase.
