Nikon SLR Cameras

What kind of camera should I look at buying?

I'm getting quite a bit into photography and I'm really wanting to upgrade to a better quality camera. At the moment I just have a small digital camera by Canon, which does the job but I'm a bit limited as to what I can do with it because it's a camera more for somebody who just wanted something to snap some shots for memory's sake. So anyway I wanted to know which is better - Nikon or Canon, and generally what kind of a camera would be versatile, good quality, reasonable price and suitable for a beginner.

Both Canon and Nikon offer lots of modestly priced but fair quality starter kits in DSLR's. IMO there's no way to objectively say which one is better. Canon enthusiasts will usually tell you that Canon is better, Nikon enthusiasts that Nikon is the one. Many people stick with the same brand when they upgrade from a compact to DSLR because the functions are similar. But I would go to a camera store, ask for recommendations in both brands and see how the cameras feel in your hand.

Neither is better, Sony run rings around both for video and Pentax have been making SLRs longer than either.

Work out a budget and talk to a dealer, but if you can't see beyond the Idiots' Two, you may not be ready for a DSLR.

If you can't afford a DSLR, take a look at bridge cameras - Fujifilm are the big boys here.
