I assume you want a DSLR and not a point 'n shoot.
Pentax K50 is awesome, very easy to use and fully capable of being used to make great photographs. Some of the Pentax DSLRs are weather proof and dust proof making for a more rugged camera.

Canon Rebel - Equally as good as the Pentax (not weather resistant at all) with better support from 3rd party vendors like Sigma, Tamron and Tokina.

Nikon - Great cameras (not weather resistant) with great assortment of lenses and accessories, but are the least user friendly.

Both Canon and Nikon have great entry level cameras for beginners and aficionados, and they both manufacture very good lenses. I would recommend that you go personally to a reputable camera shop and ask to see an entry level camera from Canon and Nikon; then, hold them in your hands, feel the ergomics and placings of buttons and knobs for features and options. Ask questions. Once you buy a camera and lens, you will usually be fixed into that camera brand since you will probably buy another lens or two in a couple of years, before you outgrow the camera… Since lenses outlast camera ownership and you'll want to get a camera you can use with the lenses you own. But first, you will want to get a very versatile lens, like the kit lenses these camera have so you can experience the different focal lengths and learn about perspective and, of course, composing through the viewfinder, and learn the basics of aperture, shutter speed, ISO, lighting, etc. Which camera you get will, to a great degree, be based on your budget.

It depends how seriously you want to take up photography.

Just for fun… Then get a cheap point and shoot.

If you want to take a class, or take it further, then look at getting an entry level DSLR.

If you want reviews, then go to dpreview.com - I don't recommend particular brands, sorry.
