What are some good riflescopes for under $350?

I'm looking for a good scope for my Rem 700 bdl 30-06 for under $350. Which magnification should I get it in? What are your thoughts on the Leupold Rifleman riflescopes? I want to use it for deer hunting and some target practice.

Leupold makes excellent scopes. So does Redfield (Leupold's "junior varsity") and Nikon.

In fact, I would trust Nikon as much as I would Leupold. Nikon makes excellent camera glass, and rifle glass is not all that different from camera glass.

The standard for most deer hunters is a 3-9x40mm or something very similar, but a 2-7x or even a fixed 4x will work just fine for most hunters. If you happen to be hunting in an area where long shots (200+ yards) are the norm, you might consider a higher magnification scope, but then again, if you can't do the job with a 3-9x, you probably shouldn't take the shot.
