Using a nikon adaptor to use the Tokina 100mm f/2.8 macro lens on Sony Alpha?

I'm desperate to use this lens on my Sony Alpha but so far all I've seen are Canon and Nikon mounts. I have heard of an adaptor that will make nikon lenses usable on Sony Alphas. How does this work and will it have a significant effect on the image quality?

There's a discontinued version of the lens for Sony and Konica Minoltas, but I've heard that it isn't a true macro lens like the canon and nikon one… So I was thinking about getting a nikon/canon version of the lens and getting an adaptor for it to work on my Sony Alpha 57. I'm really stuck to this lens because I've found some $200 deals online and it has build and image quality that I really need.

It isn't advisable… Buy a macro lens that suits your camera, - adapters allow you to physically fit a lens, though you lose all electronic function, and have to use the camera in 'manual mode' too, which makes it a very slow and awkward process to obtain photos if you don't have the experience.

Honestly I wouldn't advise you to consider this as an option… You will regret it.

I don't shoot AF, though the Tamron SP90mm f2.8 would be on my radar if I was looking for a lens similar to the one you have mentioned… It gets good reviews.

It is available, but I think $200 is overly optimistic:

Novoflex does make adaptor that bridge different mounting systems, bit you will lost almost all of the Auto features and go full manual.

Why don't you check out the used department for some old manual MD Micro lens, since you are going to lost all auto festures by using a different make lens via an adaptor anyway.
