Added (1). Don't always want to carry my dslr around. Don't know what mirrorless is. Though outdated was thinking of Canon G12, but one place wanted $650- to me a bit much for old camera.

An unused sample of the long outdated Canon G12 is rare, so they will ask an excessive price for it.
Consider the Canon G16 or the Nikon P7800. Panasonic lumix is good. Compact cameras with viewfinder:

I checked out Panasonics, Sony RX100, but bought the Canon G16 last night because of optical viewfinder. Seems choice was lots easier years ago in choosing exactly what I want.
