I'm building a drone which can hold a DSLR + a lens. I currently can use my Samyang 8mm, but I would like a cheap, LIGHT, alternative wide angle rectilinear lens. My best option at the moment is a used 18-55 kit lens, but I'm wondering if there are any other cheaper wide angles out there for a Nikon APS-C sensor.

Yes, the 18-55 mm lens is the widest, least expensive wide angle lens for your camera.

The alternatives are much more expensive and are heavier than the 18-55 mm lens.

* Nikkor AF-S 10-24 mm $900 at about 1 pound
* Nikkor AF-S 12-24 mm f/4 $1,225 at about 1 pound
* Tokina AF 11-16mm F2.8 $440 at about 1.2 pounds

You can probably see, 1) you have purchased a fully adjustable camera and 2) the lenses that support it are neither inexpensive nor light weight.

Tonight I shooting a football game tonight and I'm using a Nikon D800e and Nikkor AF-S 200 mn f/2 lens. Total weight? Over 8 pounds Total cost? $9,000

If you want a hobby that costs less, you may want to look somewhere other than photography
