Take the battery out and charge it to 100%. If that doesn't work, then the battery could be bad, but the camera could be faulty as well. I'd take it to a local camera shop to have one of the associates give it a once over.
Read the "Troubleshooting" section of the owners manual; it may give some helpful tips.
