NIKON D7100 MADE IN THAILAND?

I recently bought Nikon D7100, I'm wondering if there should be one that says "MADE IN JAPAN" because Nikon is known to be a Japanese technology though. I read some reviews that the one Amazon is selling is made in China that's why it is cheaper. But mine, I bought this in Best Buy, and on more thing, the box is not sealed, do I need to worry that this is a refurbished and not a brand new? I asked the lady in BB if why it is not sealed, she said that's how they are, and asked her again if this is not refurbished, and she answered again that it is surely not refurbished.

I believe all D7100's are made in Thailand. Only your upper level D-SLR's like the D4 / D3s/x are made in Japan. Nikon has high quality control standards, and their cameras made in Thailand are of excellent quality. Both my D5000 / D80 bodies were made in Thailand.

Yes, it's made in Thailand but under strict supervision of Japan. You can be sure it's of great quality.

Not sealed? Not sure about that but I'm pretty sure Best Buy is an authorized Nikon dealer. Just keep the receipt. Refurbished ones have very slight scratches and a marked down price.

My D40 and D7000 are made in Thailand. Labor cost in Japan is too high. If you get a D7100 made in Japan, that would be an engineering model which would have a lot of use and probably defective is some small manner.

As for sealed boxes, Nikon doesn't seal their boxes. All the Nikon bodies and lenses I, and my buddies, have purchased have been in unsealed boxes.

I doubt that they make any of their DSLRs in China. Their inexpensive lenses are made in China.

Nikon does not seal their boxes. And their refurbished cameras used to come in a white box, but now they seem to come in just a plain brown cardboard box whereas the new cameras have gold boxes, sometimes with fancy artwork, embossed lettering, or multi-folding end panels. That is going to be your first give-away whether the camera is new or refurbished.

And refurbished cameras will not have those funky origami-like cardboard sleeves that separate the individual components - usually just wrapped up in bubble wrap.

And you will know for sure when you look at the warranty. Nikon refurbished cameras have a 90 day warranty while their new cameras have a 1yr warranty.

However, I have purchased a few refurbished cameras and lenses over the years, but I have never seen even the slightest scratch on them - I could never tell them from new.

And refurbished cameras do include all of the accessories, manuals, cables, and CDs that the new ones come with.

And in the US anyway, Nikon has invoked a Universal Pricing policy, so the price is the same wherever you buy them. If the retailer sells for less, they will be subject to losing their authorized retailer status.

If you find a camera for less, it is either because of an authorized rebate by Nikon, or grey market.

Other countries may have different policies.

Canon likes to stick to Japan, Nikon cameras were made in Thailand but for the last couple of years have also been making their cameras in china. Canon for one does not seal the boxes (kinda felt weird about this too haha) if you check on youtube all the unboxes have no seals, it's just the way camera manufacturers do things. It's all about image quality, in the end it won't really bother you as much once you start shooting
