Nikon D5500. When will it's successor be released?

Any experts out there that can predict when Nikon will release a new model after the Nikon D5500? Or is it entirely random when they release models?

Not an expert but… Nikon seems to enjoy releasing successors to their cameras about 2 or so years later.
D5300 (2013-2015) etc…

Take a look at this: http://www.dpreview.com/...ikon_d5500

The release dates pretty much give you a fair idea of when the next D5xxx body will be released. Based on prior release dates, one probably assume that a new body will be announced within the next 4-5 months.

Probably next year.

My initial reaction was to avoid your question.

I'm pretty much Old School when it comes to cameras & photography, BUT I've been there, using a camera that has the features I like and a specification that performs well in most areas but might not be too good in another like low light. So yeah, you would be interested in when the replacement model is going to be released just to see if dynamic range is improved etc.

Nikon actually attract a lot of criticism because the industry can almost predict when updates are going to be released, There's suspicion that Nikon releases might be motivated more by profit, than any advances or improvements in technology.

I tend to buy my camera for its image quality, if I need Wi-Fi or GPS, I'll add it as an accessory, my cameras battery life is a priority for me and its not a problem to manually input data on image files (for me) either.

Autofocus also doesn't, impress me much, your cameras battery will last three times longer in manual focus
