I have looked at leapold and nikon but I want to pay for the scope not the brand, I've handled all these scopes in person I just want to know what these scope i posted can handle
But if you do have other scopes that you recommend i'm open, rand around $200.
Simmons makes decent scopes as well as Bushnell (Same company) for under $200. Scopes once made in Japan were very good, some of the made in China scopes are not so good. Most rifle scopes will handle calibers up to.375 H&H Magnum but recoil is only part of the durability issue. You don't want a scope that falls apart or bends if the rifle is dropped on the ground. You have to spend several hundred to a few thousand dollars for super tough/heavy military scopes. So long as you are not going to be engaged in hand to hand combat, trench warfare, amphibious assaults, or airborne operations, a $200 scope will suffice.
I would go with a much lower power, like 3-9x. A 4x will get you out to 300 yds on deer sized animals and a M/N won't shoot any better than that. For the same price, a 3-9x will be much better quality than a 4-16x or what ever and for the same quality, a 3-9x will be much cheaper. For Simmon scopes, that have magnification above 16x, you won't be able to see anything above about 14x. The glass is not good enough of quality.
A $200 scope on a $100 rifle? And the rifle isn't even an accurate one?
Honestly, you could just use the iron sights. Mosin-Nagants aren't known for tight groups past about 150 yards. More power than a.30-30 Winchester, but not more accurate.
Get a scout scope setup on it, its a great way to do it. There's a 3/8 dovetail under the rear sight and you just have to knock off the rear sight and its right there, its alot easier than drilling and tapping for a scope.plus the scout scopes start at $50 for a decent nikon. Not much sense of putting a $200 scope on a $90 rifle, although i bet there's a good way to do it. But if you want a regular scope setup check out the BSA mil dot and platinum scopes, they are both under $100 each and i had a platinum on my rem 700 in.308 and it was a really good scope. You can spend $200 on one of these ones but i'm telling you the BSA is better quality cheaper.natchezss is where i got mine for like $80. My mosin does 2" groups at 100 yards with brown bear 174gr match, i floated the barrel and did the trigger on mine and thats really it.
