What lens should I use for video?
I'm saving up for a Nikon D5200(with the 18-55mm lens kit). I'm concerned on what lens I should use for video making. I need a good, or very decent lens that cost less than 300$. Preferably, a Nikkor lens. Any suggestions? Please have some support behind your suggestion. I'm doing basic video making. Nothing extreme or action packed.
The lens you choose to use when shooting video has more to do with the lens called for in your script.
Here is a link to a video shot using a dSLR camera and it lists the four lenses they used during the production of that video
As you can see, lighting of each scene is just as important as the lens used.
I'm not a Nikon shooter, I use Canon.
However I would recommend the 18-55 for a couple of reasons. It's the lens I use for all my video because it's wide at 18 - that helps to hide hand movement when holding the camera. Second it's very easy to manually focus, and that's the only way to do video, with manual focus. Third it's an IS lens (Canon speak for Image Stabilization - Nikon calls it VR - Vibration Reduction, same thing)
This also helps to hide hand movement.
Here's an example from my You Tube channel. I shot this with my Canon 500D / 18-55 lens. The editing is another story that I'll share if you want to get in touch.
