Nikkormat FT and lens compatibility?

I have a Nikkormat FT camera and wish to use it with my Nikon AF 50mm 1.4D lens. Is this lens compatible? Will it damage my lens? I'm interested in using the light meter on the camera as it is not in working condition.

The Nikkormat FT uses the old F-mount lenses (not Ai or newer)

Your Nikkor AF can't be attached to these old cameras although if you had a Nikon D7000 or better, you could use any Nikkor AI manual focus lens or newer on them

Here is a link to a complete breakdown of what Nikkor lenses fit and work with which cameras

I did the same thing with a Nikkorex F and a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 D (from an F-801). No problems. That old SLR was a tank (heavier than a Russian Zenit) so the ultra-lightweight AF lens was a huge relief for my aching neck. I used this setup for my dirty shoots, the ones where I had to lay down on the grass or sand. The camera broke after a decade of use but the lens survived and still serves this time on a D50 (it's third body).

Not sure about your lightmeter problem though. If it's broken, the options you have are to buy a handheld lightmeter or use the Sunny f/16 Rule (this one I did). Changing the lens won't matter.
