Is the Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G worth acquiring?
Take into account I own a D3200, therefore it's a cropped sensor making it a 55.2mm(?). Anyway I've read it's quite good but I want to make sure It really is worth the money.
The Nikon 35mm f/1.8G is a bargain lens that can give you high quality images. As an f/1.8 lens, it'll allow you to shoot in dim lighting, use lower ISO for better detail, and faster shutter speeds.
I love mine on my D7100 and have used it on other Nikon DSLR's as well. Look as what other photographers have done with that lens.

Here's some sample images from that lens.
Only if you think you need it and can use it.
Before buying, tape your 18-55 mm lens at 35 mm and walk around for a few weeks using your 18-55 mm lens set to 35 mm. That will tell you more than anything else. While you are at it, set the camera to 50 mm and walk around shooting with that focal length. The 50 mm is a common lens used by portrait photographers.
If you think that the 35 mm lens is going to give you a good wide angle view, it is not. As you have mentioned, the viewing angle is similar to a 55 mm lens.
If you are looking for a good wide angle lens, then look at the Nikkor AF-S 10-24 mm or if you have a lower budget, then the Tokina 11-16 mm f/2.8 is a good choice.
The primary advantage of the 35mm prime lens is that it is f/1.8, which allows you to shoot in less light than with the kit lens. Is that what you are looking for? And are you willing to pay the price for that advantage? Otherwise, your kit lens set at 35mm should work just fine.
A crop sensor actually makes a 35mm 52.5mm.
If you are unsure about the focal length then set your 18-55 kit lens to the 35mm mark. That is the view you will get with the 35mm.
If that covers the type of photograph you want to take then the 35mm f/1.8G is the lens for you.
