Are Tamron lenses just as good as Nikon lenses? - 1

Added (1). The 10-24mm lens from Nikon is double the price of tamrons 10-24mm lens. I'm new to photography so I don't know a whole lot about tamron vs Nikon.

They are not equivalent. The MTF charts show that the Tamron is less sharp and has more distortion that the Nikon.

Tamron SP are good. Remember factories produce lenses for more than one Camera maker and higher specs and top quality control cost more.

At this time, the only third party lenses that are on par with Nikkor lenses are made by Tokina and all of the Sigma ART lenses when it comes to optical precision and lens build.

There's a reason why some third party lenses cost less that those made by the camera makers.

* durability. A pro depends on a lens lasting for decades and through over a million actuation's.
* ruggedness. When shooting along the sidelines at football games, the lens must be able to stand some abuse caused by players running over the photographer
* resistance to moisture and dust. The lens must protect itself from occasional light rain and dust, even then it is recommended that some kind of rain shield be used if shooting under those conditions
* availability of necessary parts, should the lens eventually fail for whatever reason

You didn't receive the memo? Only buy third-party brand lenses if you can't afford the original. Among third-party the order of hierarchy is Tokina, Sigma then Tamron way down below.

The best Tamron lenses are as good as Nikons equivalents.
But Tamron also make some very mediocre lenses too. You get what you pay for.

Tamron SP are quite good. I own one and it's on par with nikon's counterpart.
