Once you decide on which model fits your budget, visit a proper camera shop and hold both in your hands. You should know by then which camera is the best for you.
Why would you want to buy a camera that I use and like instead of one that someone else uses and likes. That makes no sense when you are spending nearly $1, 000 when you and a second lens and a handful of memory cards

I think Pentax are making the best cameras these days… It's about time somebody decided to show both Canon and Nikon how it should be done properly.
Nikon are good cams but Canon is more preferred due to its true colors. Compare the pics taken by both the brands, it will be visible to you. I recommend canon T3i due to its high image quality and easy usage.

Both brands are pretty much equal. Both are great brands.both make great products. What you buy should depend on what you need. And if you ask a question this basic you don't know what you need.
I can tell you ANY basic DSLR or even EVIL camera does more then most people require for their photography. I'm so not joking. There are huge specification lists coming with these cameras that is just. You know.yeah buy one and you probably don't need to think about upgrading for at least 4-5 years.

With dSLR's that is. With point-and-shoot (PNS) cameras, Canon makes easier to use and longer lasting cameras. If you want the same level of Nikon technology with a PNS, look to Sony.
