How to choose the perfect camera?

I've just moved from a flat Savannah, GA to mountainous TN. With this change and a better view, I'm looking for a new camera. The Nikon I have is great but I'd like more features like a higher definition, further zoom, and around $250. My highest is $400 but even that is pushing it. Interchangable lens would be great but that can be optional. Links would be appreciated + your own personal review/experience.
I'm looking more for nature, wildlife, and personal photography. All answers are welcome.

Fujifilm finepix hs25exr just like a dslr but no interchangeable lenses 350 at www.henrys.com but the zoom is 30x wich means from a mile away you could read a license plate perfectly

With your budget, interchangeable lenses are not available on new cameras. Used and refurbished is another story.

A little camera that I own gets great pix and has a decent zoom. The Nikon P7100 has been updated with the P7700, so it has been reduced to around $400. I got one for my wife that included memory card, cleaning kit and case for that price.
