High-quality camera for beginner?

I want a camera for my birthday, but I'm not sure what I want to ask for? I want a high resolution camera, that can focus and has nice picture quality, you know, what you would expect. Nothing too fancy, because I'm a beginner. I really just want a camera that I can take nice pictures and post them on tumblr. Should I get a Nikon or a Canon? And it can't be too much money, so if there's a good one on the cheaper side that would be really cool! I shop on amazon usually, so if it's not cheap in the actual store it may be on amazon.

Nikon is the way to go.

By nothing too fancy I guess you mean a point and shoot. Lots of brands to choose from not just Nikon and Canon but Fuji, Panasonic, Sony, and Olympus. Stay clear of Sanyo, Kodak, GE, Holga and Vivitar cameras.

Well a high-quality camera for a beginner, to me a point and shoot isn't going to be worth it for you considering you want to do many different things… You are definitely looking at a D/SLR.

I would go with a Canon T3i in my opinion is definitely worth the $629.99 you pay for it…

But, another great beginner camera is a Nikon D3100 and its somewhere around $500

They all take great pictures and I'm sure you could do all those things you wanted with both of the type of cameras.

I would 100% buy the camera off amazon, you will get some type of deal which could mean getting a case, or a extra lens, or SD card… I would also look into getting bundles because then when you get your camera you will get everything you need.
