I was looking for a good software for my macbook to edit photos on, since I have more experience in the darkroom than digital stuff I was wondering what a good software to edit pictures on would be

Needs to be able to:

Do the basics (enhance, crop etc.)

Add watermark

Put together panorama/collage shots.

Open to all suggestions but not looking to spend a ton of money as I just upgraded to a new camera.

The same answer applies whether you use an Apple or Microsoft operating sysem

Both pros and amateurs use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.

Right now you can subscribe to both programs for under $10 a month.

All the good software titles have both Mac and PC versions.

I have both a PC and iMac. The iMac is used mostly for photo editing.

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements, Photoshop Elements Premiere, Adobe Lightroom, Nikon CX2, and Photomatix (HDR) on my iMac.

The above is the web site I used to print out the iPhoto information and had it spiral bound at Staples. I have tried Photoshop Elements and my brain just can't get around it. After all I was into film processing for many more years than computers. I plan on learning the iPhoto program as the "Aperture" seems to take off from where the iPhoto program leaves off. You don't "have" to print out the instructions but for my 72 year old mind it is better. The iPhoto program will definitely do the basics as you list them. Watermark & panorama, I don't believe so. So you may start out with iPhoto and then progress into the Aperture program much faster than me. A couple of things I learned that I like already is that the library of photos used in iPhoto is compatible with Aperture. Also, I misplaced my memory card adapter and had to use the built in memory card slot on my "Mini'. To my surprise the iPhoto library came up immediately, a nice little feature.
Hope I had added to some of the information your were seeking! P.S. There's also a similar site for the Aperture program that goes into all the functions of it, for your first hand information.
