Added (1). How do I know the thread length?
If your camera has a 1/4" tripod thread sure.
But you really don't need that if you know how to hold a camera steady. First use the widest lens you have for video, me it's my 18-55. Both help to hold down hand shake making it less visible. Then add this.

A view finder, and I own one, will give you an excellent view of the screen in daylight and at night.
Total cost of this upgrade - $60 as opposed to what you're thinking about.
It should work.
I would also check out the X1 from Cine-rig.
It's $125 and all aluminium.
