Your D3200 is no different than any other dSLR with CMOS sensor. When shooting video, the CMOS sensor gets hot and automatically shuts off the camera to protect the sensor.

If you shoot video using a script, your "takes" should not be longer than two to three minutes each.

So, there's NOTHING wrong with your camera.

If you wanted a camera to shoot video for long takes, you needed to buy a real video camera

There's nothing wrong with either camera or battery - you're beginning to learn how these cameras actually work.

As David said, sensor heat is normal. You're lucky you can get 20-minutes, I only get about 12.

Recording video consumes lots of power and your battery should be about done after 20-minutes of shooting.

I have a Sony SLT-A77 which has a sensor from the same family as your D3200 has. The Sony has the advantage of an alloy body, but even then it came with a notice saying it's normal for the body to get noticeably warm when shooting video. Actually 20mins of video from a D3200 is amazing, they normally overheat and shut down long before that! As for the battery again, it's quite normal, using a camera such as the D3200 eats battery life!

It's a user problem. The user does not understand that the dSLR was never meant to do video. Use the right tool for the right job. For video, use a camcorder.

You are capturing 24 frames/second at the same time recording audio. That is a lot of processing in the camera

Maybe you should take the time to read your manual.

I AGREE D3200 IS NOT A VIDEO CAMERA, BUT I HAVEN'T MEET THIS PHENOMENON TO ANY SIMILAR CAMERA.
ESPECIALLY MINE GETS OVERHEATING ANT THE SAME TIME THE VIEW ON BACK SCREEN GETS MILKY -LOW LIGHT-BLUR.
THEN I TURN IT OFF AND WAIT TIL GETS COLD.
I THINK IS DESIGN PROBLEM AND THERE's NOT SOLUTION FOR IT.
