Why compare the Nikon D7000 to the Canon 60D?

Why do people compare the D7000 to the 60D? We all know that the 60D can't match the D7000 in any ways, why not compare it to the 7D? It has the magnesium alloy body, then they compare it to polycarbonate plastic? Why not compare it to the 7D's magnesium alloy body? I think they compare it based on the price, but please compare it by features and specs.

Uninformed people compare cameras on price and megapixels and the amount of zoom. Up to them. I've more or less given up on trying to talk any sense in 98% of the first time camera buyers here on Y! A. I just wish them lots of fun with whatever they choose.

You can compare any way you wish, although I would agree with you on the D7000 and 7D being more closely comparable than the using the 60D.

As Jeroen stated… The folks making this comparison are just as likely to base their decision on the color of the camera strap as anything else.

Price point.

And there are some ways in which the D7000 can't match the 60D.
Such as video.

The D7000 also outperforms the 7D in a few ways as well, the D7000 has an astoundingly versatile chip.

I have a 7D and wouldn't swap though, as once again, the 7D outperforms the D7000 for video which is an essential function for me.

To my mind the 60D was a half arsed dumbing down of a camera, gone are the PC synch socket, lens adjustments and construction that made the 50D an aspirational amateurs dream. It's obvious Canon want you to buy the 7D on specification or the 600D on price. I think the 60D will be the last x0D camera.

I have canon lenses. Some of them costing more than my 7D, so I'm not changing systems anytime soon.

Canon make brilliant cameras, and the 60d is amongst them. Be happy with what you have. For years Nikon users looked at Canons megapixel count and AF systems with envy.

Try and buy a nikon over 12 or 16MP without remortgaging your house, or buy a 5Dmk2 for similar money to nikon cameras with half the resolution…
