Which lens is best for Headshots?

I have a Nikon D3100. I would like some recommendation for a good headshot lens. I already have the standard 55 mm that came with the camera and a 50 mm 1.4 g. Will one of the two lens works?

Actually, your 18-55 mm lens would be fine when you set the zoom to 55 mm.

The AF-S 55 mm f/1.8 lens will do the job, but really before you spend a dime, practice using your lens with at lens aperture wide open

If you own a 50mm f1.4 you could
- try it out
- tell us what it's not doing for you

If you have a 50mm f/1.4 that'll be near perfect for headshots on a APS-c sensor… Slight perspective compression to flatter the subject and very little coma/edge distortion combined with low CA.

Use the 50mm. Awesome lens.
I never saw aperture referred to as g.before but I'm still learning myself.
