The Nikon D3100 doesn't have an aperture. The lens used on the camera has the aperture. Depending on the lens the sharpest aperture is usually somewhere between f/5.6 to f/11.

Taking photos of a 2 dimensional object such as a book then the sharpest aperture will almost always be 2 stops down from the lens' maximum.
Taking a landscape or other 3 dimensional subject and depth of field plays a far greater role in perceived sharpness so you should be using f/11 or f/16.

I don't know what you mean by "sharpest", but in any case, that would be a feature of the lens, not the camera.

The camera is not referred to as having the sharpest aperture. It is the lenses. So each of the Nikon lenses and all lenses for that matter have their sharpest point. This f/stop will vary from one lens to another. The general rule is (which has been mentioned many times already) is usually two stop from wide open.
