Sony A58 or Nikon D3200? - 1

Added (1). I'm looking to buy my first ever DSLR (or DSLT) . I'm between the Sony DSLT A58 and Nikon D3200. I'm also thinking of the Canon 1200D.

What do you think?

I have a Nikon d3200 and I have to say it is fantastic and is really reliable as it is made by a really famous company good for camera whereas Sony makes products but not as famous for camera but your choice to be honest.

None of these cameras you listed are bad. Get the one you want.

At those price levels nobody makes any bad cameras.

DLSR manufacturers to consider: Canon, Nikon, Pentax.

Obviously you already know a Sony A58 is not a DSLR, but an SLT. And that it doesn't have an optical viewfinder.

If you are considering an SLT, it might also be wise to also include other mirrorless systems.

Something you may want to consider:

* Electronic viewfinders have a slight lag, so when shooting action or sports, you may find you have more missed shots than you would using a camera like the D3200 with an optical viewfinder

Yes but the A58 is faster than the d3200 it can take 5fps

The Sony A58 with its semi-reflective diagonal mirror has the advantage for video.
The Canon line, with their STM lenses and hybrid autofocusing sensors would be second for video, but not the entry level 1200D that strips out those features to be cheap.
Canon and Nikon offer a better selection of lenses than Sony.

Any will do although I prefer dSLRs for their optical viewfinders. If you dab equally on photos and videos, the SLT would be better.

Nikon buy their sensors from Sony in the first place, and the same sensor is shared by the Pentax K-500.

The Sony shoots better video than the Nikon, and any Sony/Minolta AF lens gives full functionality with it (I've lost count of the number of times people on YA! Have asked how you get a given lens to autofocus - or even meter - with a given lens, only to be told they can't).

It should be noted that any Pentax lens made since 1975 will meter with the K500, and any Pentax AF lens allows autofocus with any Pentax AF body.
