Should I change to nikon or stay with canon?

Now i have a canon 7D
I'm planning to sold it and buy a new camera ( because it is broken )

I know that the canon 7D is an awesome camera, I even have a thought to buy the canon 7d body only

but then I started searching for info about the nikon DSLR… And I have my eye on the nikon D7000
it is really awesome

but then, I found out that the nikon lenses are really Really expensive
and I don't have that much of money ( I can get the money but it will take months to get it )

the most important problem is, I really Really want the canon 17-40mm f/4 L USM lens
i can't stress this info enough

and I don't really know that much about nikon lens, i'm like a blind guy… You know?

so what should I do? Stay with canon or change into nikon?
if your opinion is for me to change into nikon, please tell me a lens that is similar in every way with the canon 17-40mm f/4 L USM lens

I'm a long time Nikon user and would recommend Nikon to any newcomer, but you already have experience with Canon, an understanding of the kit and you know the lens you want.

What does the Nikon D7000 have that the Canon 7D doesn't have? Well, the D7000 has a bit better image quality, but not enough for you to notice unless you are comparing close up on blown up images. It is better on low ISO - that's what Nikon are really good at right now - but you really need to regularly go to very high ISOs before you would consider it worth switching for that.

The D7000 also has AF on video - but you shouldn't be using £1000 cameras for video - and AF on DSLR video is just about useless anyway. You do get more focus points on the Nikon, but most advanced users only use one anyway. The Canon gives yo a slightly faster motor drive and a slightly higher MP count, but who cares? How many times do you need to go over about 4FPS?

Undoubtedly Canon will produce a new, better body soon. And then Nikon will probably leapfrog them again with an upgrade to the D7000. There's always a better model on the way!

Basically the 7D and D7000 cameras will both produce great images in the hands of the right photographer. There's not enough difference to justify switching systems.

The Canon 7D is very nice camera, and I'm assuming all your lenses and accesories are designed for Canon stuff. The 7D is definitely not a disposable camera. Why wouldn't you try to get it fixed? Even if it costs you $300-$400, you're still ahead by several hundred dollars. If you're going to throw it away, I'll take it off your hands for $20.

I'm in the get your 7D repaired camp, and spend the extra on lenses - all lenses are expensive! I know the Nikon D7000 is awesome, but then so is your Canon 7D! When it comes to the Canon 17-40mm f/4 L USM lens you'll have to explain why you see this lens as being so fantastic, before we can suggest alternatives.

Repair or replace your 7D body - changing systems is expensive and unnecessary.

@Martin Actually… I need to go over 4FPS a lot. I use 12FPS a lot and find the 8FPS of the 7D slow at times.

The D7000 is physically smaller than the 7D, so it may feel weird switching to a smaller camera.

If you like Canon lenses then stick with Canon cameras, it's not worth buying a body if you don't need it. If you can't come up with 5 strong points as to why you need the Nikon camera then it's not worth switching, especially if the cons outweigh the pros.
