Reducing microphone hiss?

I'm using a Rode videomic attached to a Nikon D3200 and was wondering how to reduce the microphone hiss. Despite the fact that the D3200 isn't a video focused camera, I believe the noise is coming from the mic. I did some musical recording recently and found that acoustic performances were clearer, though the hiss was more noticeable. Any advice would be appreciated.

You can reduce the audio attenuation.
Hiss is usually caused by trying to record at high recording levels.
Make sure that you are not interpreting wind noise as hiss

They sell those spongy covers that reduce wind noise. Try one of those.
