I'm considering buying a used Nikon D40x 10.2 megapixel digital SLR camera (kit 18-55mm) of a friend. I was just wondering if it is a good camera? Keeping in mind is is secondhand. Is it a good camera to take photos of people or does it make their flaws stick out? Is the quality good? Please someone?

They are, but really the D40 is a classic and would be worth finding if you can.

Here is a shot taken with an old D100 with a 6 mp sensor, so don't be too concerned about the number of pixels that are on a dSLR's sensor.html? Sort=3&o=8

The D40x (an upgrade to the classic D40) was and is a very good camera for the novice photographer. If the camera has not been damaged, and your friend can vouch for it's good condition, then you should consider it. Just remember that it's an older model that shouldn't cost you more than $300, as demonstrated by the low prices on Ebay.

As for the quality of the camera, I shot for a couple of years with the D70, a 6mp camera that has even lower resolution than the 10mp D40x. Here's a detailed review of the D40x when it first came out.

If you want to see what the D40x can do, look here at over 27 million images, shot with that camera. Just use the Search box to find subjects that interest you.

Just remember that the D40x can take all current Nikon AF-S and Sigma HSM lenses to expand your capabilities.
