Nikon d3000 battery won't charge?

I lost the charger that came with the camera so I bought another one. It's not the same charger.
I left the battery on the charger all night and it was still dead when I tried to use it.
I've been using the same battery since Christmas '09

Buy an original Nikon charger and hope that the off-brand one didn't kill your battery. If it didn't work on the first try, then it's a waste of time to try to make it work - that won't happen.

For my Nikon DSLRs, I wanted an extra charger, so I bought a "genuine Nikon" charger off of Ebay. When it arrived, I could tell it was different, as I had an original one already for comparison.
When I put my batteries in the new charger, they fit very tightly. After a long charging session, I found that my batteries also didn't charge. Luckily I was able to dispute this on Ebay and got a full refund.
Lesson to be learned: when in doubt, always use an OEM charger.
