Nikon SLR Cameras

Is there suppose to be a new Nikon coming out better than the D4?

I'm looking to upgrade my camera and i want to get the D4 but do not know if there will be something else coming out within this year so I can save my money to get that one and have top of the line equipment for a little while. I appreciate any advice you have.

If you had done your research, you would have noticed that the D3 was introduced in 2007 with a minor revision, the D3s, in 2009.

It was the 2012 when the D4 was introduced. That probably means that the next camera, the D5, will probably show up in four years or so.

Professional level cameras take a long time to develop and are more robust thus last much longer (I have a colleague who has over 1, 000, 000 shutter cycles on one of his D3 cameras and it is still performing just fine

There's some rumor of a D4x, but I would not hold my breath on it, as that function has kind of been taken over by the D800. But should there be a D4x then it would probably be a slightly higher megapixel version with slightly less low-light capability, similar to how the D3s/D3x cameras were.

And if anything, I would expect to see a D4s version with the anti-aliasing low-pass filter removed. Nikon has been removing them as of late as they are contending they are not required with high-megapixel sensors.

This started with the D800E, then continued with the J3, the D7100, and the Nikon Coolpix A. So I could see a D4s without an anti-aliasing filter long before a D5.

The best site for these kind of rumours: http://nikonrumors.com (heh, some people claim Nikon uses the site to test reaction to new product ideas)

Are you sure that that's the most efficient way to spend your money? What camera do you currently use, and more importantly, what lenses do you use? What kind of subjects do you shoot?

You could get the D4 now and forget about getting a new one until it dies. You can even forget about the D4 and continue using whatever you already have if all that matters is getting a picture. I know, it's your business. My point is something will always be better. If not now, sooner than later. That's the trend with Nikon.

The best option would be to get a Hasselblad and forget Nikon altogether. If your target is be at the top of the technological heap, that's where you ought to be looking anyway.
