Is my Nikon d3100 broken? - 1

Alphabetti

I got a new Nikon d3100 for Christmas and the other day it seemed to just stop working! The little green light that flashes when it is turned on flashes even when it is turned off (which doesn't make sense) and when I turn it on, the screen just shows as loading (the little hour-glass icon). I use it probably every other day and between it working and not working all it has done is sit on the shelf. I have tried letting the battery charge run out then recharging it but there was no change. Any clues as to what the problem might be?

Call Nikon Customer Service - 1-800-645-6678. Also, in the back of the Owner's Manual for your camera there should be a list of Nikon Authorized Service Centers.

Is there any possibility that you got the camera wet while it was turned on? If so that might be the cause of your problem and any repairs will be at your expense. The Warranty doesn't cover damage caused by abuse such as getting the camera wet or dropping it.

No its not broken just some problem, may be water entering, but water entering also is not small problem for electronics. Just remove battery don't put it. And dry the camera once.before you call to technical support. The best way to solve problem related to electronics when it is new is to contact the seller or seller technical support

Yes.

Did you read the manual? There's supposed to be a section there about errors.

Anywho. Four months is still within warranty. Bring the camera back to the store you bought it from and don't forget the sales receipt.

Try removing the SD card then, turning it on without the SD card. If your SD card is corrupted, the camera may be trying to read it without success.

The hourglass icon means "wait" or "busy", so if it is trying to read the card that might be the reason. Many times the camera will indicate a bad card, but not always.

Also make sure you lens is on all the way. Remove it, then re-install it. This could also cause a wait/busy condition.

If those don't work, time to call Nikon.
