How to get good non-blurry pix without flash?

I have a D7000 nikon and i'm not too great with working specifically on shutter-priority or apreture-priority. How can i get good clear shots without flash?
Added (1). I can't use a tripod, i'm taking pictures myself from different stances and angles at the event i'm going to.

Use a tripod and a fast shutter speed.

Set the shutter speed to 1/500 and use ISO3200
Here is such a shot using an older Nikon D300.
Remember to set the cameras white balance to match the lighting
