Good nikon d3100 lens for shooting cities?

What is a good affordable lens for nikon d3100 for taking pictures of cities from above (from roof tops.etc)? Does someone know what lens is best for this kind of photography?

The best would be a wide angle zoom lens like the Nikkor 10-24 mm lens.
If you are on a budget, Tokina makes a superb wide angle zoom, the Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16 mm f/2.8 Lens, about half the price and it is a faster lens.

I avoided your question to begin with…
I Couldn't get an angle on where you were coming from… I agree with fhotoace that most of the time you would be better off with a wide-angle lens… Although a telephoto lens might be worth considering too for times that you want to 'isolate' something of interest.
Have a look through a photography guide book to get an idea of the perspective that different lenses give you… I carry telephoto lenses and very rarely need to shoot over 135mm… Don't get me wrong though… When I need to use 300mm i'm glad I have it with me.
