1) Does the Nikon D600 have better dynamic range than the D700? As much as 1 full stop, or less than that?

2) Of all the FX cameras available, which has the best dynamic range?

3) Are the sales of the D600 exceeding, meeting, or missing Nikon's projections / expectations?

Here is the DxOMark sensor ratings. It shows the D800 as having the best dynamic range, closely followed by the D600, and further behind the D700. The D800/D600 have a 2EV (2 stop) advantage.

Even the cropped D7100 has a 1.5 EV improvement over the D700. Such is the recent gains in improvement in the newest sensors.

It is interesting to note that the D4's dynamic range is less than the D7100. Again, sensor design is leaping forward in bounds:

The Nikon DSLRs with the highest dynamic range according to DxOMark are:

D800 (14.2ev)
D600 (14.1ev)
D5200 (13.9ev)
D3x (13.7 ev)
D7100 (13.7ev)
D3200 (13.2ev)
D4 (13.1ev)
D700 (12.2ev)

When you look at these figures though, remember that you are only comparing one figure, and as such, you are taking it a bit out of context. There are a lot of other things to consider in a camera than just one spec. For instance, even though the D5200 has a higher number than the D4, no one would even think the D5200 is a better camera.

Just keep things in perspective.
