Do nikons need batteries and a charger?

I'm trying to buy a used nikon D40(its my first camera) and it says on the description that it includes body, lens, and charger… Is that all I need? Or do I need a battery? I know nothing about cameras!

It probably comes with the battery, but ask before buying it just in case!

As far as I know these dslr's come with rechargeable batteries since they don't use regular AA batteries. The one on the D40 will be pretty old, you can search online to see they still make batteries for it.

The battery and charger should come with it if its new or refurbished.

If it don't come with a battery, it isn't going to work.

This is an older camera, around 8yr old. Batteries don't last forever, and are often no good after 8 years, especially if good battery management has not been practiced.

So I would specifically find out if the battery is included. They are not cheap, around $50 for a new one, so this is a significant expense should you need to buy a new one.

It needs a battery. The D40 uses one EN-EL9 battery. Ask the seller if the camera comes with one.

All D-SLRs need a battery & charger. A new battery will cost you around $35. ALWAYS buy a Nikon brand battery!
