Distance equivalent in camera?
Hi, i'm wondering how long is the actual distance of the 60mm lens on the Nikon D7000?
I assume you mean what's the equivalent focal length compared to a full frame camera rather than the physical dimensions of the 60mm lens?
Nikon DX is approx 1.5x compared to a full frame, so a 60mm lens on a DX sensor would have the equivalent view as a 90mm lens on a full frame camera.
See http://www.kenrockwell.com/...factor.htm
If you want the physical dimensions of the lens or the minimum focus distance I suggest you use a useful internet tool galled google…
Lenses for DSLRs are measured from the sensor plane to the optical center of the lens, when the lens is focused to infinity. For Nikon DSLRs, regardless of whether they are cropped or full frame, the sensor plane to lens flange is 46.50 mm.
So a 60mm lens would be the same for either Nikon full frame or cropped DSLR.
Some people like to use equivalent distances by a multiplying 1.5x, but this is not accurate as the DoF does not follow an "increase" in focal length. In fact, the DoF on a cropped camera acts the opposite - it mimics a shorter focal length.
The idea you should get used to is for cropped cameras, just consider you have to backup a bit to get the equivalent photo, and leave "effective" focal lengths alone.
Distance isn't a consideration for a lens, after all, all of them can focus at infinity. It took me a while to understand that. What you need to understand about lenses, is that the mm tells you the focal length which determines what the angle of view is. The more mm, the narrower the angle of view. Maybe this article will help.

Be sure to scroll down to the focal length section.
Maybe this tool will help you understand the relationship between focal length and angle of view.

You will note that as the angle of view gets narrower, the distant subject appears to get bigger. This is what confuses people into thinking that the lens has distance.
- Camera exposure changes although settings stay the same except focal distance. Why?
- What type of Camera and Lens can take photos at this distance?
- Correlation between camera digital zoom and distance to object?
- My nikon d300 was just dropped by my cat from a high distance, now my flash doesn't work?
- My lens autofocus does not work in long distance (more than 6 meters)
