D800 and Meike Battery Grip?

Today I got my Meike Battery grip for Nikon D800 which is made of plastic. My question is that a plastic battery grip can hold both camera and lens weight which is 1.8Kg while mounting on Tripod? Actually I never used battery grip so m little bit confused whether is it safe to use grip with tripod…

I would agree depending on the weight of your lens. That's why on very long, heavy lenses the maker puts a tripod mount on the balance point of the lens. So with one of these lenses use that balance point rather than the camera body's mount.

Of course it's made of plastic but then so is your camera body. But remember that this is space age plastic and can be as strong as steel if formed correctly.

If the lens can be supported by the camera body when you hold the camera then it should be fine on a tripod even with the grip.

Why you would buy a camera like the Nikon D800 and then go cheap on a battery grip is beyond my understanding.

The Nikon MB-D12 is designed to hold the weight of the camera, batteries and any lens that do not have their own tripod mount attached to them.

I suggest you return that grip and if necessary, save your pennies to buy a proper Nikon grip.
