I'm thinking of buying a Nikon D3100 as my first DSLR. Thoughts? Suggestions?

D3200 is better, its got more for the money. Although i liked my canon t3 and the 28-70 lens i got from Ebay. Eventually your gonna want a full frame camera though.

Yup - that's a fine entry level DSLR. Should keep you going for a few years.

D3100 or D3200 are both good. Ignore the remark in another answer about 'going full frame'. The 'crop frame' sensor of any low-to-mid-price DSLR will more than satisfy you.

Although the D3200 maybe better, the D3100 is a nice camera to start with.
