Nikon SLR Cameras

Best of these DSLR's?

First thing I would like to say is If you're going to reply like a "know it all elitist" and insult me, then please don't reply.

Okay this would be MY first DSLR, I have a lot of experience with DSLR's from the photography classes at my school (Mostly Canon T4i and Nikon D3200 & D7000).

I'm thinking of finally buying my own and I would like your input, I have narrowed my camera's of interest to these:

- Canon T4i / T5i
- Canon 60D
- Nikon D7000

I would mostly be using these cameras for Photography and Video projects.
I'm basically trying to find the best "Bang for Buck" (Under $1000) with these brands (Canon & Nikon).
Could you guys tell me which is the best for my needs from those cameras, or maybe recommend another one you think might be more suiting?

The Pentax K-30 takes and meters with MF lenses, has weather-sealing and a pentaprism, and is much cheaper than the Canon EOS 60D and Nikon D7000, but with a better sensor.

Some people prefer the superior video performance of Sony's SLTs.

If you're serious about buying a DSLR, look at All the alternatives, and choose the one that feels right in your hands. Nobody who can only see Canon and Nikon should be allowed near one.

RetiredPhil offers some decent advice, you aren't giving much away, Nikons D5100/5200/D5300 might be worth checking out, the articulated screen is handy for video and if my memory serves me right the D5*** series cameras trump the D7*** series on video options, you'll need to do your own research there.

If the articulated screen isn't important, then the D7000 is nice. Since you've already handled both Canon and Nikon brands, don't you already have a preference? Pentax is worth a look, when I attended college a few years back in the UK Pentax was the preferred choice of the course tutors, it's always best to cover all your options, i'd take the advice offered here and give my local camera store a visit for a demonstration of what's in your budget.

I suggest that you compare the Nikon D7000 and Canon 60D since they are on par with each other in that price bracket.

You can do that by visiting the DXOmark website to see how their sensors perform in the critical areas of Colour depth, dynamic range and at high ISO settings (mostly use when shooting sports)

The Nikon camera that most closely matches the Canon T5i is the Nikon D5300. You can see how those sensors perform on the same DXOmark site.

EDIT: You will note that I'm not going to tell you which camera to buy, since YOU are the one who will be spending your money and living with the choice for the next couple of decades.

Before you spend a dime and after you have done all the research you can visiting DXOmark and DP Review websites, visit a proper camera shop and hold your choices in your hands

In addition to the sensor performance, you might want to consider other things such as flip out screen, or ISO performance.

The other place I would research would be user reviews. Expert reviews are important, but, to me, how it performs in the real world counts even more.

When all is said and done, I would prefer the Nikon D7000.

You will find that canon users will recommend Canon and Nikon will recommend Nikon!
I'm a Canon advocate and so recommend one of those.
In truth, most good named DSLRs these days take comparable pictures, so you should get fine results with whichever you go for.
Look at the models in a store; study the controls and various features (which will be most useful to you?)
Then pick the one that feels right for YOU.

If you won't be troubled for video blogging etc by not having an articulating LCD then the Nikon D7000 is superior.
Note though that the Canon 70D partitially bridges the ISO gap.

Myopic as usual. CANON & NIKON are the only brands available. Well think about buying a DSLR camera with comfort in mind, Ease of handling, something that is a pleasure to see and create through. Something that IS an extension of your being. And if PENTAX does not blow you away then independent thinking is not at work here.

A D7100 slightly used is a great place to start there. Although if you own no glass, it makes no real difference overall. But the D7100 is one of the best DX format bodies Nikon has made. 24MP with great DR and noise.

I would highly recommend adding the Pentax K-50 and K5II to your list of contenders. They'll be the only ones that are weather sealed which can be a huge deal. They also have lenses that are weather proof too. To get that from Canon or Nikon, you need to look at their L-series lenses and the 1Dx. I recently watched a video of a pro talking about how the rain killed his Canon 5D Mark II.
