Suggest me a decent Tele-zoom lens and a wide-zoom lens?

I'm purchasing Nikon D5100, and will be needing a tele-zoom and a wide-zoom lens. So please help me which are best lenses to buy at affordable price.

Please provide me guidance as to what is the difference between the two types.

The Nikon D5100 comes with an 18-55mm zoom lens. In my opinion, since you're just getting started with a DSLR, you'd be wise to just use the 18-55mm lens for a few months. This will give you time to learn the capabilities and limitations of the 18-55mm and discover what kind of photography you do the most.

Here is an illustration of what the 18-55mm "sees" at its different focal lengths:

Its always best to first identify a need and use for a lens before buying it. One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is buying a lens based on someone's recommendation without knowing why they need it or how they'll use it.

Over the next 6 months you may find that you mostly do portraits. If so then adding a Nikon AF-S 50mm f1.8G prime lens would be advisable.

Over the next 6 months you may find that you mostly do landscapes. If so then adding a Nikon AF-S 10-24mm ultra wide-angle zoom would be a good choice - along with a good tripod. I consider a tripod mandatory for good landscapes.

So my advice is to just use the 18-55mm zoom that comes with the D5100 for 6 months or so before even thinking about another lens.

He's right, stick with the 18-55mm for the moment.

Apart from anything else, you're unlikely to need much wider than the 18mm end.

Maybe look at something in the 55-200mm range later, after you've worked out what you're doing with what you've got.

The most affordable wide angle zoom is the AF-S 10-24 mm

The most affordable telephoto zoom would be the AF-S 70-300 mm VR lens
