Should I worry about dslr shutter count?

So I recently ordered a Nikon D5100 from a top-selling shop on eBay. The camera was listed as brand new body only and the accessories. I received it today and I checked the shutter count using two different sources and both of them tell me that the shutter count is 2110. I'm a little worried about if I should worry about the shutter count. The camera was listed as brand new and but was in fact used to take 2110. Should I message the seller and tell them to send me a new camera or should I just not even worry about it?

I would certainly raise the issue with the 'seller'… Your camera isn't as advertised, depends on what you paid for it though… At the very least I would chance my arm… At the very most - if I paid the average value… I'd demand a replacement!

To be perfectly honest the only time I monitor 'shutter count' is when i'm working with images on the computer… I have the D5100 and have never checked it

Report it to the supplier and ask if it will shorten your warranty period. If it does then they need to either refund you some money or replace the camera. It should be good for 100, 000 actuations before problems begin to occur.

Yes, that's way too high for a " new " camera. I bought a refurbished camera from Cameta and it only had a shutter count of 40!

Obviously the body wasn't new. Ebay has become ground zero for scams on the web.

However at 2110 nothing to worry about as long as everything else works correctly. These cameras are rated to a shutter count of 100, 000 before needing a tune up… Same for Canon which I own.

That's a very low count. Yes it's important but that low number shouldn't worry you at all.w

I read all the time about people buying a product on eBay and getting burned. My friend bought two bicycles on eBay one was great dal and he was taken on his second. I just don't buy unless I have a decent guarantee and then I'm leery and would rather spend a little more and be able to see & inspect the item before I put up my money, like Craig's List. And then I would be concerned!

We all learn from these experiences. I found out I just can't buy clothes or anything related to clothes on the internet. Bought shirts and shoes --both had to be returned for size reasons. Unless I could buy off anybody's retail rack I should not buy on line!
