Okay, so I got this reverse ring (bought online) 52mm dia said to be fit for 18-55mm lens to be used with Nikon d5100, but when I set this arrangement up it says "no lens attached" and I can't go further / can't do anything. Can any one please help me how to make it work. Step by step! Treat me as a beginner.

Watch the Youtube video. Make sure that the camera is in manual mode. Good luck. Keep shooting!

If you want to do macro work using a reversing ring, you have to do everything (focus, metering) manually.

Because the lens is on backwards, the CPU chip in the lens is not connected to the camera body, so of course it thinks there's no lens attached.

The only way to do macro with full control of the camera is to either use a dedicated macro lens or use extension tubes with an electronic connection between the tubes (Kenko make them).
